Finally, the long-awaited single by Ruger “Muhammad Ali” (Can’t Relate), is out.
Nigerian singer, Ruger, whose real name is Michael Olayinka Adebayo started singing at a very early age. To take his inner abilities seriously and to realize his innate potentials he started doing music professionally with the release of “Bounce”. This jam, just few weeks after release, spread like wild fire in harmattan and buzzed heavily on our airwaves and at parties and nightclubs.
This earned him a deal with music executive Don Jazzy’s brother D’Prince’s music label, Jonzing World, in 2021. He made a great decision because from that moment things turned around for better for him. When the heat of Bounce was about to cool off, he called on top Nigerian music producer,Kukbeat once again. They entered the studio and another hit banger, “Girlfriend” was made. Till date it remains a super dope Dancehall-themed mid tempo jam.
In 2024, the talented artiste parted ways with Jonzing World. Many thought that was a regrettable decision and doubted he could stay successful standing alone. To our surprise, his music profile soared higher. He went on tour across Europe in countries like Denmark and Cyprus and in Australia where he was joyfully and massively received.
The truth is Ruger is one of the few African artists who carry the burden of Dancehall on their shoulders. What do I mean? Despite the paucity of acts doing the Jamaican-born genre, he continues to his thing and very well too. Ruger has worked with popular Nigerian Dancehall producer, Kukbeat a number of times and their collaboration often end up being a smash.
Yes we all know he has bias for love songs. He is also fond of dis$ tracks. Like a rapper, he won’t stop reminding his contemporaries he is superior and of how far he has gone, with these tunes.
