Nigeria’s fast-rising star Victony dishes out fresh hit, “Tanko” ft Terry G.
Anthony Ebuka Victor who is professionally known as Victony launched his music journey in 2020 with the release of “Saturn” EP. In preparation for the release of the music compilation, he came through with “Ina Benz”. They both performed but couldn’t get him to the prominent spot he sought or anticipated. But not minding he grinded harder. Luck, however, smiled on the gifted artiste in 2021 with his team-up with Mayorkun who had already left Afrobeats giant Davido’s label, DMW.
As a smart artiste, you’d need to work with either a fast-rising/ reigning artiste or the finest/ best ones to maintain relevance as I stressed in an earlier post. The “Mayor of Lagos” combed through the music industry and chose Victony. For me, he made a very wise decision as their collaborative engagement birthed “Holy Father” that made Victony’s name to be heard in every neighborhood in Nigeria.
That success gave him so much confidence he put out his second EP ,”Outlaw” that houses “Soweto”- a successful fusion of the Highlife and Calypso genres. This was later remixed featuring Rema and Omar Lay. Believe me, in that short space of time he had gained so much recognition Wizkid’s personal disc jockey and recording artiste, DJ Tunez had to call on him alongside legendary singer, Wande Coal for a terrific collaboration that evolved into “Bad Girl”- a single that made it to the top of many of Nigeria ‘s music charts just one week after it came out.
In 2024, the singer who started unprofessional music as a rapper had become one of Nigeria’s most sought after singers. It is worthy of note even Nigeria’s Alternative music star, Bolaji Omo Dapo better known as BOJ employed his vocals on “Pressure” that further pushed Victony to the front on the music scene.
While his most recent songs are still buzzing everywhere, Victor Anthony serves a brand new jam titled “Tanko” ft Terry G. It is common knowledge Victony navigates within the Afrobeats, Afropop, Hip-Hop, R&B Highlife and Calypso genres. This time around, he explores a traditional dance song. Terry G is a dance song icon/ specialist who ruled the Nigerian music space between 2008 and 2013. Victony’s choice of the veteran is genius and it is no surprise Victony “Tanko” ft Terry G has spread like wild fire in harmattan in just days after release. This is one hot, House-infused dance banger and it is a must-have.
