The wait is over as much-awaited single by Adekunle Gold “Coco Money”, is finally out.
Adekunle Kosoko who is professionally known as Adekunle Gold launched his music career under YBNL Nation in 2013 with the release of “Sade”which turned out to be a hit. It was widely accepted by a large proportion of Nigerian music lovers. This song got so many people wondering what a talent he is! Before the heat of it could cool down, the Nigerian Alternative singer followed up with “Orente”. In that year of release it buzzed resoundingly at all wedding parties. This was apparently a bigger jam that convinced us all he wasn’t around to joke and made it clear the success of his debut song wasn’t a fluke but rather, a product of his innate creativity.
In 2016, Adekunle finally came through with his then highly anticipated debut studio album, “Gold” which houses hit tracks as “Friend Zone”, “Beautiful Night” and “Pick Up”. I will never forget timeless joint, “No Forget” which happens to be a dialogue love song performed by Simi and Adekunle Gold- also housed on the super dope music compilation. Though the 15-tracker is saturated with Alternative tracks, he managed to showcase his other ability with a Dancehall-fused sound- “Ariwo Ko”. This particular song opened our eyes to the artiste’s ability to do other music genres and well too. At a time we were still rocking to those great tunes in 2018, Adekunle, in preparation for the unveiling of his second studio album, came through with Pheelz -produced, Highlife-infused banger, “Money” that banged heavily at our Owambe parties and on our airwaves.
Few months later, the multi-talented artist wowed everyone when his sophomore studio album, “About 30”, came out. This playlist is a masterpiece as we speak because it hosts unforgettable classics as “Damn Delilah”, “Surrender”, “Down with You” and “Remember”. Since then, he has not rested for one day as he regularly elates our spirit with his soothing, deep, danceable and lyrically rich joints. And to be honest, most of these earlier jams are still being aired (especially on radio)in Nigeria today.
While his latest singles “Rodo” and “Obimo” are busy buzzing everywhere, he serves us a fresh Hip-hop tuned hit titled “Coco Money”.
Adekunle Gold “Coco Money” likens his riches to that of those into illegal money making as drug lords and money launderers.
Lyrical excerpt:
