Though she professionally launched her music career in 2017, Darkoo whose real name is Oluwafisayo Isa, started doing music as a young teenager. She, however, blew up in 2022 with her “Gangsta” single. It is worthy to note the success of that single earned the rapper cum singer a nomination in the “Best Diaspora Afrobeats Artist” category at the 2022 edition of the famous Headies Awards. Since then it has been from one success to another.
It is the truth the past few years have been great for the UK-based artiste. The past few weeks have been greater and indeed, a game changer for Darkoo as she made it to the tracklist of Olamide’s “Olamide” album. The dope album has been a huge success since release earlier this month and has further pushed her to the forefront of the Nigerian music scene. While her music profile keeps soaring, the creative teams up with legendary singer, 9ice for Gongo Aso refix. She used the instrumental of the old song for this new, greatly infectious sound. In case you never knew, “Gongo Aso” is a jam that came out in 2008. Just one week after release it spread like wild fire in harmattan across Nigeria and beyond and for many years, banged everywhere we went: our clubs, parties, streets and on the radio. The timeless classic still buzzes on our airwaves and parties till we speak. How was this evergreen music made? The then-fast-rising star worked together with iconic and super gifted music producer, ID Cabasa who made a catchy and unique instrumental and the singer made good use of it as he delivered excellently on the beat.
