How to Renew your Sterling Silver Signet Rings

Signet rings are men’s rings that have been in vogue for centuries now. They date back to medieval times when they were exclusively worn by religious and political leaders and in short, people in power as a mark of power and influence. They were a symbol and tool of authority through which documents were signed and sealed. Fast forward, they have “evolved” into sterling silver signet rings men wear to make bold statements, express personal style and to balance their overall fashion.

Though lasting, you have to avoid hitting them against mostly, metal objects as constant contact with them would inflict scratches that could make your ring look old and unattractive. If your silver signet rings are badly scratched and you do not know what to do, worry no more as there is actually a way to renew your sterling silver signet rings.

So, what do you do if you already have these terrible scratches all over your ring? I will guide you through the simple process to follow to renew your sterling silver signet rings when they get all scratched.

To do this, you would need 4 items to get your silver signet rings back in shape: Toothpaste gel; detergent powder; a soft toothbrush and a piece of soft cotton. Please note that when I say toothpaste gel I am not talking about toothpastes that contain baking soda or herbal mixtures. Instead, I am talking about toothpaste gel as the traditional red Closeup gel.

First step: The first thing to do to renew your sterling silver signet rings is put some gel on your soft toothbrush and spread gently on your ring (and on the onyx if it has one). Leave the spread on the inner and outer ring circles for about 20 seconds. Now go ahead to clean gently.

Second step: Pour some detergent powder into small bowl. Add some water and work into lather (foamy bubbles). Dip your signet ring into it and start to wash gently with that same soft brush. Avoid washing the onyx part aggressively. After carefully washing inner and outer parts for about 5 minutes, remove from the lather and rinse in a clean water. Rinse over and over again to a point it is no longer slippery in your hand.

Follow this last step to renew your sterling silver signet rings: dry the just watered accessory in a soft piece of cloth and store in your ring pouch. If you do not have a ring pouch, keep in a dry soft piece of cloth and put somewhere you can easily find it.
