The Nigerian singer whose real name is Yemi Eberechi Alade but professionally known as Yemi Alade rose to prominence about 12 years ago with the release of “Johnny”. This jam was so huge that year: There was hardly anywhere you went where you won’t hear the upbeat sound banging: It buzzed ceaselessly on our airwaves; blasted at our parties; and resounded at our clubs and bars years after release. Since then, it has been from one successful single/ album to the other.
After three years in the game, Yemi Alade was done with a carefully crafted music project titled “King of Queens”. The critically album which spanned Afropop, Highlife, Afro R&B and Dance houses so many hit records including “Duro”- an unbelievable vocal performance. Before the heat of that album could cool down, Yemi Alade followed up her debut album with sophomore album, “Mama Africa”. Since then it became a norm to delight us literally, yearly with at least either an Extended Play or an album. This is there for everyone to see.
This female virtuoso stands tall among her peers and her energy and dedication to her craft could be said to be arguably unmatched. I think that is why she hardly features artistes. I think she feels she is more than sufficient and to be fair, she is whatever she thinks she is. Though a lover of dance songs, Yemi diversifies and ensures she avails her fans with a variety of diverse music genres. This speaks volume about her ingenuity and versatility.
Additionally, the type of visualization she gives her songs says a lot about her art. Yemi Alade has made it a habit to employ the services of the finest Nigerian cinematographers to create amazing music videos and mostly dance videos.She has worked with the likes of Ani James and Clarence Peters.
