Finally, the much awaited single. by Iyanya “Orobo”, is out.
Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk who is better known by the stage name Iyanya, started singing at an early age. His talent brought him on MTN’s talent hunt show, Project Fame West Africa in 2008 where he emerged winner and gained the confidence he could actually and professionally do this music thingy. He grinded harder and in 2012, he broke through onto the forefront of the Nigerian music scene with “Kukere”. That was a turning point in the early hours of his music career as this song went viral not only in Nigeria but globally in weeks. In a short while, Iyanya’s music profile grew fast as his monster sound was everywhere. This happened, if you remember, at a time D’Banj had just fallen out with Don Jazzy. The former was still in critical thoughts on how he would maintain the fame he once enjoyed under Mo’Hit Records. What did DBanj do? He sought after the reigning artiste for “Kukere remix” and his decision actually paid off as the joint was also everywhere for a few years.
Asides dance songs, Iyanya has great liking for love songs. That brings me to remembering one of his follow-up singles, “Lekwa” which happens to be a combination of these (his most loved) genres that trended for years too. Though it was also everywhere, truth is “Lekwa” wasn’t as hard as his breakthrough record. And suddenly, the star light that once shone so bright began to dim. Few years later he managed to shine again when he met top Nigerian music producer and lover of R&B music, Mystro who currently is one of Tiwa Savage’s producers. The musical chemistry between them birthed some amazing sounds as “Type Of Woman”- a typical R&B tune that bought him more time.
After a relatively short reign, Iyanya disappeared into oblivion and many wondered what happened. Well, he turns the ship around and returns better and bigger with the release of “Orobo”. He teams up with “Hey Jago” crooner and fast-rising Nigerian artiste, Shoday for this brand new jam which is track 5 off his freshly released album, “The Forester’s Son”.
Iyanya “Orobo” is one banger that would definitely force you off your seat to the dancefloor and make you “do the whine”.
Lyrical excerpt:
Too many things on my mind
Too many things on my mind
Bukata yapa but me I no mind
I no mind make I turn your worries to mine
would you decide if you’d be mine
Cos we compatible

O ti di gobe
Dey play
O ti di gobe
Orobokibo orobokibo
Na your waist lose
Want to hold you down
Like you be economy
Hasta la vista I say goodbye
Na your ex lose
Hasta la vista hasta la vista
Na your ex lose
I can provide you all thethings you
Keep you home till your satisfied
If I do you wrong
