Nigerian music producer Young John (Young Jonn) now popularly known as Jiggy rose to prominence in 2014 with his making of Olamide’s then hit single, “Story for the gods”. This breakthrough happened under the watch and mentorship of Olamide who, then, just signed him to his record label, YBNL Nation. The very melodious jam got many wondering: Who is Young John?; where did he come from?
As at this time, the Nigerian music industry already paraded big names as Puffy Tee, Don Jazzy, Samklef, Masterkraft, Sarz and Shizzi. Not minding the dominance of these beat “monsters”, “the wicked producer” grinded harder as he constantly put in work. This perseverance encouraged Olamide to further push him into the forefront. How did he do this? The music executive entrusted him with the “cooking” of “Bobo” that turned out to be a smash. Adedeji did not stop at that as he put him on the production team of his then signee, Lil Kesh’s debut album, “Young And Getting It” that houses “Gbese” produced by John. The Y.A.G.I project was such a huge success, was an opportunity to showcase Young John ‘s magical fingers and of course, functioned as a springboard for the talented producer to attain greater heights.
At a point in his music production career, Young John left YBNL Nation to become an independent artiste but later joined Nigerian Hip-Hop legend, MI Abaga- led label, Chocolate City. Since then, things have never been the same. I think that was the stage in his life the skillful music maker realized he had more than just production skills in him and became fully conscious of his other interest: singing.
In 2022, Young John officially launched his music career with his debut hit single, “Dada” featuring Davido. While this was busy banging everywhere, he followed up with “Xtra Cool”. To the surprise of many, the song was so widely accepted that it ranked high on Nigeria’s top music streaming platforms few weeks after release. While some were still in doubt of his singing abilities and in the thought that those were mere fluke, he came through with another massive hit, “Bahamas”.
Since then, he has not slowed down a bit as he continues to delight us with sweet and addictive tunes. His latest banger, “Only Fans” has been buzzing on our airwaves and rocking the streets since its release last month.
Yet again, his successful music career recently earned him a Canadian tour where he thrilled his audience with his great sounds.
It is a fact Young John ‘s dedication to his craft and his talent has, today, presented him to be a household name to Nigerians and has also created a space for him on the global music scene.
