4 Ways to Renew your 100 percent Cotton Shirts

100 percent cotton shirts are definitely durable wears but no matter how durable they are, they become old and damaged with time. However, there are tricks you can adopt to renew them and extend their durability limit. In this article, I would share with you techniques that would make your 100 percent cotton shirts last a lifetime.

1.   Wash with your Hands

Though there has been this debate for decades now on which is safer between hand-washing clothes and machine-washing. I would not join this debate since this is not the aim of this post. For me, I prefer hand-washing any day as this is a practice I have employed for years and my old shirts still look so good. So, to make your 100 percent cotton made shirts new again, hand wash them in cold or warm water. While washing ensure you wash the necks and collars gently. Do the same for the sleeves, the bands and the bodies. After you finish washing, rinse them properly in very clean water.

2.  Starch your shirts and Drain them

There are diverse brands of liquid cold water starch in Nigeria at the moment. Renew Starch and DOlives Starch are examples of such products. Whichever brand you lay your hands on wherever you are, buy it. For best results, pour 4 capfuls of liquid cold water starch to 4 litres of water of stir well. Before you do this make you shake the starch bottle very well. Now deeply immerse your shirts for few seconds and remove (and do not rinse). Now hang or spread them outside to drain water.

3.  Do not Dry under Direct Sunlight

After draining, spread your 100 percent cotton shirts outside in a place far from direct sunlight. Few hours later, take them inside and hang them on your clothes drying rack.

4.  Iron in low heat

The last phase of the renewal process is ironing. When totally dry, sprinkle some water on your 100 percent cotton shirts and iron dry in medium heat. When done, button shirt from bottom to top. Now place the front of each shirt on a board or bed, and fold from right shoulder to the neck and fold the sleeve to the south (down). Do same from the left shoulder to the middle (neck) and also drop down the sleeve. Now, fold neatly from the bottom to the shoulder level and keep in your wardrobe or clothes box.

Congratulations as you have fully and successfully learned how to renew your 100 percent cotton shirts.
